*Please note: When looking for a replacement mattress it is important to know the exact measurements of your sleeping area. While most sleeper cabins accommodate standard semi-truck mattress sizes, the best and most accurate way to measure for your new mattress is to measure the width and length of your sleeper berth.
While most semi trucks and RVs come stocked with a mattress, an OEM mattress does not usually maintain the quality, comfort or support of an aftermarket SleepDog® truck mattress. Your mattress won’t come with an expiration date, but if you begin to experience poor sleep or have trouble falling asleep, it may be time for a mattress upgrade. When the time comes to buy a new truck mattress or RV mattress, there are a few things you will need to consider, such as rig size and sleep preferences. Below is a guide that outlines the dimensions for the four standard semi truck mattress sizes that we offer at SleepDog®, along with some specific examples of various trucks or recreational vehicles each mattress size generally fits in, to make mattress shopping simpler for you:
Size A
36" x 80"
Our Size A truck mattress is one of our smaller mattress sizes, measuring 36” wide by 80” long. While the width of the Size A mattress measures 2 inches shorter than the width of a traditional Twin XL mattress, the length measures the same. This mattress size is ideal for single sleepers, and usually fits in the following truck configurations:
- Peterbilt 579 sleeper cabin
- Freightliner Cascadia models, including single or double bunk configuration
- International Pro Star 56” Sleeper Configuration
- Mack Pinnacle
- International LT Series 56” Sleeper
Size B
39" x 80"
The Size B truck mattress measures 39” wide by 80” long, sharing the length of a standard twin XL bed while offering one additional inch of width. This extra inch of sleep space doesn’t sound like much, but it can make just enough difference in the comfort of your sleeper cabin. Size B SleepDog® mattresses are generally a great fit for these trucks models:
- Some Freightliner Cascadia configurations
- Volvo VNL 760 or 740 sleep configurations
Size C
42" x 80"
Our Size C mattresses are constructed to measure 42” wide by 80” long. The Size C mattress is built to maximize your comfort by giving you the most sleeping space out of our semi-truck specific mattress sizes. Size C is not quite as wide as a standard full size mattress, but is several inches wider than our Size B mattress size. Size C mattresses are most compatible with:
- Some Freightliner Cascadia models
- Most International Truck 73” sleeper cab configurations
- Kenworth W990, W900 sleeper cabin options
- Peterbilt 567 80” Sleeper Configuration
- International Lonestar
Size D (bunk)
32" x 80"
Our Size D mattress, also known as the bunk size, was designed to fit perfectly in cabins with upper bunk options and measures 32“ wide by 80” long. Still relatively new to the SleepDog® mattress collection, size D is only currently available in our BigDawg® mattress construction, which is a 9” dual-sided memory foam mattress construction. Size D mattresses are often a great choice for these semi-trucks:
- Kenworth T680 sleeper cab with bunk
- International LT Series 73” sleeper
- Peterbilt 397 Mid Roof Configuration

Frequently Asked Questions
What size mattress do most semi-trucks use?
Since every semi-truck make and model is different, there is no true standard semi truck mattress size. However, SleepDog® mattress does make and manufacture a number of relatively standard truck mattress sizes that range from 32” wide by 80” long to 42” wide by 80” long. We always recommended measuring the dimensions of your sleeper berth to ensure that you select a mattress size compatible with your sleeper cabin.
What is the difference between a truck mattress and a regular mattress?
The only difference between truck mattresses and standard mattresses are their dimensions. While you may be able to find a standard size mattress that fits in your semi-truck, more often than not, sleeper trucks require mattresses that are made to fit within a very specific set of dimensions. Truck mattresses also tend to have a slightly slimmer profile than a standard mattress size, so that they don’t take up too much of your sleeper cab space.
How thick should a semi-truck mattress be?
Semi-truck mattresses tend to have thinner profiles than standard mattresses. The recommended thickness for a semi-tuck mattress is between 2 and 10 inches. SleepDog® DOT approved mattresses are available in either a 7” profile or a 9” profile to provide durable, substantial support and comfort over-the-road.
How can I make my tractor trailer bed more comfortable?
Investing in a great mattress is the easiest way to make your tractor trailer bed more comfortable. SleepDog® mattresses are available in two different memory foam constructions and a variety of semi-truck mattress sizes to ensure that we meet every over-the-road sleep need.
