How to Clean a Truck Mattress

A fresh, clean, well-maintained mattress is an easy way to ensure that you are alert on the road, as well as make your truck feel more like home. Below are some methods to keep your truck mattress clean.
Practice Regular Cleaning
Regular cleaning is important for any mattress, but it is the easiest way to keep your semi-truck mattress in its best condition. A small hand-held, battery-powered vacuum is all you need to clear crumbs and dust from your mattress. Washing your sheets weekly will also help maintain the cleanliness of your mattress. A professional grade deep cleaning is recommended at least once a year if you find yourself frequently doing long-haul trips and spend a lot of time on your mattress.
Use a Mattress Protector
Mattress protectors are an easy way to keep your mattress clean. Many mattress protectors include padding to offer extra comfort to your mattress on top of protection. Mattress protectors will help fight off stains, damage, and other wear and tear to your mattress. Be sure to wash your mattress protector every few months to keep it effective and keep your mattress clean. Remove Stains
If you spill on your mattress, it is important to clean up the spill quickly to prevent stains from setting in. The deeper set the stain is, the harder it will be to remove. There are many DIY solutions and natural cleaners that you can use to remove stains from your semi-truck mattress, without adding unnecessary scents to your already confined truck cab.
Method 1: Simple 2-Ingredient Solution
- Combine laundry detergent and water in a spray bottle and shake until they are blended.
- Spray your mattress from top to bottom. Do not get your mattress too wet as this can result in mold or mildew growing in your mattress.
- Take a clean, damp rag and gently remove the cleaning solution. Use a dry rag to absorb excess water from any wet spots.
- Let your mattress dry in direct sunlight or under a fan if possible.
Method 2: Deep Set Stains
If stains have already set in, you may need to use a stronger cleaning solution. For this method you will need baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap.
- Create a cleaning solution using 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and 2-4 drops of dish soap.
- Mix this solution in a spray bottle and apply it generously to the mattress.
- Once the solution dries, vacuum off the layer of baking soda residue.
- Repeat this process as needed to remove remaining stains.
Deodorize
Vinegar and baking soda can be used to remove odors from your mattress. Vinegar does have a strong smell initially, but it should evaporate quickly and be unnoticeable after a few minutes. To deodorize your mattress, sprinkle baking soda on the mattress and then spray it with white vinegar. Vacuum the remaining baking soda away. Be sure to only use only a small amount of vinegar to avoid any lingering vinegar smells and to avoid over-dampening your mattress.
